Lara Warman, Software Engineer and Artist, lara.localhost

Lara Warman shares three experiments with AI at home: what to give away, what technology can add, and which skills her children will need to navigate the world.

What happens when we deliberately and thoughtfully bring AI into our homes and family lives? Can we use it to make more room for the human parts of life, instead of replacing them?

Lara Warman builds very personal technology for her family, from a grocery bot to a family telephone hotline. For her, technology doesn't have to disappear into efficiency. It can help our lives be less efficient and more delightful. And while the parental instinct is to protect kids from technology, Lara believes they need careful exposure to it, so they can safely learn to question the system, form an opinion and make an alternative.

In this talk she will unpack:

  • What can I give away to AI?
  • What can technology add to family life, beyond efficiency?
  • What skills do I want my children to have to navigate this world?
